Hi, I’m Kevin welcome to the page on my site where I get to tell you a little bit about me, my site and how I got where I am today. Where is that? Well its having the freedom to work for myself only needing a laptop top and of course my mug coffee!
I’m not going to regal you with tales of fast cars and secret systems to making millions overnight because I don’t have either. What I have is the freedom to work when and where I want and make a nice living doing so. A laptop and a mug of coffee is my website where I share and review many of my experiences good and bad. Its where I get to show you how internet marketing has changed my life and how you can make money online to.
First let me tell you a bit more about my story so you can get to know me better. I don’t find this bit easy because honestly, I’ve never been fully comfortable talking or writing about myself. But let’s give it a go and I’ll try not to bore you.
No University For Me Straight To Work
I had a great childhood, I grew up in the countryside in the south of England with my parents and two sisters. We were lucky enough to be surrounded by some beautiful countryside and most of my spare time was spent there. At school I was just mister average, average academic levels, average exam results. I didn’t particularly like or dislike school but I did know as soon as I had the option I wanted to work, so despite my parents protests at 16 off I went and got my first job. I was offered a 5-year apprentice in the print industry and I loved it, getting my first pay packet plus I was good at it. 5 years later I had my city and guilds and was promoted. Life was good at 21 years old
Big Change And Travelling The World
Then the first major change of my adult life. My partner and I had bought a house with a big mortgage it was the early 1990’s and suddenly house prices started to fall and interest rates started to rise. It put pressure on our relationship, we broke up and I lost the house. I decided after working 60 hours a week for the past 10 years it was time for a change. I sold what little I had left and bought a ticket to Hong Kong.
Wow, there is a big world out there! for the next 3 years I travelled around the world from east to west. I took whatever jobs I could find from teaching English in Thailand to bar and building work in Australia. Working on a bungee site in New Zealand and driving a van in Hawaii. This was the university course that I had missed out on, the university of life and diversity and I loved it. Like all good courses, it came to an end and 3 years later I hopped off a plane back in London. The picture above is the infamous Chungking Mansions in Hong Kong where I spent the first night of my 3 years travel
10 Years Of The Corporate World
Back to the grindstone, it was a case of starting a fresh at almost 30 and that is what I did. I got a good job, worked hard and got promoted. I did this for almost 10 years. It was great that it helped me get out of debt and get my foot back on the housing ladder, but then one day an epiphany. After losing a good friend to ill health. I decided that there must be more to life, I longed for the freedom that I had whilst travelling and so in 2005 at 38 years of age I left my job and vowed never to wear a suit and tie, (apart from weddings and funerals), or work for anyone else every again.
Self-Fulfilment And Self-Employment
Over the years, I had become passionate about the environment and our health and well-being so I immersed myself in study. I completed a course in nutrition and another in personal training and health and well-being. I became vegetarian (and have not eaten meat since) but of course needed an income whilst studying. I started a small relocation company and I loved it.
I was outside using my hands, meeting different people every day and I could study when I wasn’t working. We started rescuing animals, battery hen’s, dogs, any animal that needed a home we would try and foster, just trying to make a difference in life. Life was good, I wasn’t rich but I got up every morning with a smile on my face until one day I damaged my back so severely that the only option was an operation.
A Warmer Climate And An Online Journey To Financial Independence.
So that was my manual work options gone, although the good news is through a combination of good diet, stretching and meditation my back now feels as strong as ever. But I didn’t know that then so it was time for another direction. All the animals were rehomed, and along with the dogs I relocated to a little village in the north of Gran Canaria. You can see where I live by watching the video below. Now all I had to do was find a way to make a living.
I knew I could teach English having done so before so I completed a new teaching course and set off for a new life. The problem was with teaching I wouldn’t be my own boss. I would have to be in a certain place at a certain time, determined by someone else, something that I had vowed not to do. So, I started to search for online options. Surely there must be a way of making money online so what did I find?
Making Money Online
Ok I’m not proud to say this but I’ve fallen for a few scams, you know the adverts I’m talking about. The “guru’s” that stand in front of their Lamborghini’s holding 6 figure checks, promising they will tell you their “secret” or “system” that of course, anyone can do with very little effort? Not that I want a Lamborghini and although 6 figure pay checks are great it’s not what I valued. What I did want to find was a genuine way of making money, one that ideally, I could enjoy and one that would give a degree of financial freedom and free time.
Over the past 6 years I have tried drop shipping, completing surveys, writing articles and a myriad of other online money making schemes, some ok but the majority pretty poor. Then I came across a site that taught me how I could use affiliate marketing to monetise my passion of health and nutrition. I could write about what I loved, offer people genuine advice and get paid for it. Below is a screenshot of my first month with Amazon. I remember it well my first affiliate income, a whole £5.40! I keep it as a reminder.
So now that’s what I do full time and I love it. I earn a really good income doing something I enjoy. So here on A Laptop And A Mug Of Coffee I’m going to review some of the good the bad and the ugly that I have tried over the years so you can make an informed choice. I’m also going to share what has worked for me and many others that use the same platform.
Let’s Get Started
Before we do I just want to tell you two key points.
Making money online is a skill that anyone can learn
Making BIG money online is a skill anyone can leant BUT it takes time and effort
Affiliate marketing really can be great fun. It can be exciting and engaging, you are always learning. But it’s also work. You won’t get rich overnight, but if you put in the time and effort, you can far exceed your expectations. To many people want instant results. They want to push a magic button that will generate them an instant income, well I’m afraid that button doesn’t exist. I will say it again though ANYONE can do this. It does take effort but it’s worth it. Not only can you make plenty of money (there really is no limit to how much), but you get to be creative, you get to write about things you love, and you get to help people find answers and solve problems.
So, what do you need, well just a positive mind-set and the right training. The good news is that you don’t even need any money to get started. I started for completely free and you can to. Anyway, that’s enough about me, if you have any questions about anything however obscure just drop me a message, I always try and respond the same day
Wow, well done of you got through that, I hope I didn’t bore you. Now feel free to go an explore the site. I really hope you find it useful and decide to take that step to your financial freedom
Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget I’m always here to help
